The Special Desk Department seeks to promote the sustainable development of the region by designing, managing and ensuring the prudent adherence to CEDECOMs corporate targets and facilitating advocacy programmes in gender affirmative actions, disability and climate change.
CORE OBJECTIVE
To facilitate policy planning, monitoring and evaluation (PPME) as well as advocacy in the area of gender affirmative action, disability and climate change.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
To manage and ensure adherence to corporate targets. To develop baseline and performance monitoring indicators in collaboration with other departments. To ensure that the activities of the Commission adhere to affirmative gender action, disability and climate change benchmarks. 4. To provide insightful variance analysis and early warning signs to keep the Commission informed with best practices of climate change, disability and affirmative gender actions.

Affirmative Action (Gender Equality)Affirmative action refers to a set of policies and practices within a government or organization seeking to increase the representation of particular groups based on their gender, race, sexuality, creed or nationality in areas in which they were excluded in the past such as education and employment.
DisabilityA disability is any condition which makes it more difficult for a person to do certain activities or interact with the world around them. These conditions, may be developmental, intellectual, mental, physical or a combination of multiple factors.
It is important to mainstream disability issues as an integral part of relevant strategies for sustainable development to ensure quality livelihood for all.
Climate ChangeClimate change describes a change in the average weather conditions - such as temperature and rainfall - in a region over a long period of time.
Green House EffectCertain gases in Earth’s atmosphere block heat from escaping. These gases keep the earth warm like the glass in a greenhouse keeps plants warm.
ACTIVITIES
Consolidate all departmental plans and activities for 2021. Design monitoring indicators for all departmental plans and activities in consultation with the departments. Embark on sensitization programs on climate change, disability and gender affirmative actions for members of staff and the general public by December 2021. Provide routine monitoring and evaluation support for departmental programmes, projects and activities. Prepare quarterly, mid-year and end of year reports on the corporate activities and programs Collaborate with relevant stakeholders/institutions (Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, related Non-Governmental Organisations) in enhancing gender equality and disability issues. Sensitize clients on best practices such as tree planting. Ensure that all departments incorporate awareness creation on activities that negatively affect climate (small scale mining, charcoal burning etc.) into their work plans.
