CEDECOM, in 1998 established the first Community Computer Learning Centre in Cape Coast with the objective of making ICT accessible to private sector operators, students and the youth who otherwise could not have had the opportunity to use computers. Even though the facility has trained a lot of people, not much has been achieved in the area of impact.
Currently, the ICT industry in the region can be described as a potentially viable sector. Though some private individuals and institutions have set up ICT facilities such as training centres and browsing cafés, there is no conscious effort to manage the growth of the ICT industry in the region. Educational institutions at the various levels face challenges such as inadequate trainers, non-availability of computers and accessories particularly, within the rural communities. This situation is compounded by the fact that most rural communities have no access to telecommunication facilities and electricity, two critical factors vital for the development of ICT.
FUNCTIONS
Data collation, processing and Storage Designing, printing, packaging and distribution of promotional and publicity materials for internal and external consumption. Provide public relation services on behalf of the commission Planning publicity strategies and campaigns Writing and producing presentations and press releases Dealing with enquiries from the public, the press, and related organisations Organising and attending promotional events such as press conferences, open days, exhibitions, tours and visits Speaking publicly at interviews, press conferences and presentations Analysing media coverage Produce photo shoots and video coverage of identified projects, activities and events for video documentaries and reports. Collaborate with other departments in the implementation of Trade Shows and other events. Ensure the availability of standard equipment and software to facilitate work. Performing maintenance activities on IT infrastructure. Facilitate the implementation of the Right to information (RTI) Act by the Commission.
